Israel seized the Palestinian Water Supply
VIVAnews - Israel blocked Palestinian access to sources of clean water. However, Israel opened the maximum access to places of their occupation in the West Bank.
Information was reported by Amnesty International report released on Tuesday, October 27, 2009.
"Swimming pool, lawn with fresh water and agricultural land with irrigation area in the places occupied by Israel. That's in contrast to the villages in Palestine were citizens have to struggle even to meet the domestic needs of their water, "said Amnesty International as quoted from the pages of Al-Jazeera television station.
Amnesty International says, between 180,000 to 200,000 Palestinians in West Bank rural communities have no access to running water, and water pipes in place to dry.
"Israel allow Palestinians to access only a small part of water resources largely communal area located in Israel occupied the West Bank," said Donatella Rovera, a researcher at Amnesty International.
In a report titled 'Troubled waters - Palestinians denied fair access to water' revealed that daily consumption of water by Israel's per capita four times higher than the 70 liters per person consumed in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Israel controls most of the supplies in the West Bank, to pump water from the Mountain aquifer which connects Israel with the relevant region. Amnesty said, Israel uses more than 80 percent of water from these water sources. Then, when Israel has other water sources, springs were the only source of water in the West Bank.
In the Gaza Strip, some repairs done to improve sanitation before the blockade Israel imposed in 2007. But the project stalled because Israel prevents materials imported for repairs to the Gaza Strip. The situation worsened with the Israeli raid into Gaza route earlier this year that destroyed water sources, wells, pumping stations and a network of water.
